The Kyocera Tempo-E2000 is a bizarre looking clamshell phone with a design that just screams “cheap.” It is not particularly attractive, doesn’t have a particularly large amount of features, and considering all of the other clamshell phones on the market, it isn’t a particularly impressive device.

The Kyocera Tempo-E2000 was announced in March 2007 as a dual band CDMA phone. This means that it can only be used in the United States and a few other places in the world. However, what the device lacks in global roaming features, it makes up for in high-speed data transfer. The Kyocera Tempo-E2000 is able to access the 3G EVDO rev.0 network for sending data at high speeds.

Measuring in at approximately three and a half inches by two inches by a half of an inch, the Kyocera Tempo-E2000 is a pretty small device compared to other recently released clamshell phones. It is also lightweight at 100 grams, making it one of the smaller and lighter devices on the market.

Unfortunately, battery life suffers due to the device’s small size. Expect to get only three and a half hours of talk time or 210 hours of standby time on a single charge.

The Kyocera Tempo-E2000 features two screens, a main one on the inside of the device and a secondary screen located on the outside of the phone. The internal screen measures 2 inches in size, features a screen resolution of 176 by 220 pixels and can support up to 262k colors. The secondary screen on the outside of the phone measures 1 inch in size, features a screen resolution of 96 by 96 pixels, and can support up to 65k colors.

The Kyocera Tempo-E2000 also includes a built in digital camera capable of taking pictures up to 1.3 megapixels in resolution. The camera also features video recording capability, an LED flash, and digital zoom.

Multimedia is well supported on the Kyocera Tempo-E2000. The phone includes support for a number of audio and video formats and memory can be expanded via microSD cards.

Other features include Bluetooth 1.2 support, a phone book, an alarm, a calendar, a memo-pad, a calculator, a stopwatch, a clock, a to-do list, a number of voice commands, a voice recorder, a speakerphone, and GPS support.

Pros

* Lots of features
* Small size
* 3G and GPS support

Cons

* Not particularly attractive or user-friendly
* Poor battery life
* Features are low quality

Overall

The world is swimming in a sea of clamshell phones. Some of them are impressive devices and are truly worth money while others try hard to be but don’t quite hit the mark. The Kyocera Tempo-E2000 is in the latter group. While there are a lot of good features built in to the Kyocera Tempo-E2000, it just doesn’t quite hit the mark. If you can get this phone for free, it is a good buy – otherwise, keep looking for a better device.
