Gadolinium: The Missing Link to MRI Injuries Unveiled

Gadolinium is an essential component in magnetic resonance imaging, which is more commonly known as MRI. This contrast element is needed so that doctors will be able to see the internal organs of a patient on the MRI. Of course, patients would much rather go under the MRI equipment rather than experience invasive procedures just for doctors to know their present health conditions. But without the injection of this contrast agent or dye, the tissues and internal organs cannot be clearly viewed. The problem is that MRI injuries may happen when this dye is injected into an individual.

By the way, the contrast agent that is being discussed is gadolinium. This colorless liquid is actually composed of metallic crystals, which are responsible for the luster that enables doctors to spot problems in tissues and internal organs of patients. Without this liquid, a good quality MRI is cannot be achieved. The problem, however, lies in the fact that there have been many cases of MRI injuries that are specifically related to the use of this contrast agent.

Although many lives have already been saved by MRI, some people who have undergone this procedure have actually reported some adverse effects, including muscular weakness, joint pains and inflammation of the skin. These facts show that this contrast agent can not only help people, but it can also be harmful to people.

The ill effects of gadolinium can be temporary, and can subside in hours or days. However, there are a significant number of cases where the symptoms actually worsened and become permanent. It seems that patients with kidney problems who undergo MRI are more susceptible to fatal MRI injuries such as nephrogenic systemic fibrosis (NSF) or nephrogenic fibrosing dermopathy (NFD). And even if patients survive these conditions caused by the MRI contrast agent, they can still suffer debilitating pains in their hip and rib areas, as well as skin problems and eye spots for the rest of their lives.

Patients who are suffering from other inflammatory ailments are also at a higher risk of experiencing adverse effects due to this contrast agent used for MRI. This dye can be toxic and can cause fatal problems in the internal organs, aside from joint pains, skin diseases, and eye woes, especially for these patients who already have inflammatory ailments.

Patients who have suffered MRI injuries due to gadolinium should not suffer silently alone. They can make the people or institutions responsible for their suffering pay for what they have done.
