You are driving down the street minding your own business when you are suddenly and without warning you are rear ended by a car that has not noticed that the light ahead of is red. As you climb out of your car, which now has a bumper where your back seat should be, you feel a strange tightness in your neck and shoulders and a mild headache leaves you a little nauseous. You take one look at the steam pouring out of the car behind you and see that the tires are flat and front end has crumpled into the wheel wells. There is a large crack in the windshield and the airbags of the car that hit you have been deployed.
After calling 911 a policeman arrives and takes statements from both you and the driver of the car that hit you. A short time later a tow truck arrives and after a few minutes begins to haul the two wrecked vehicles away. As you sit on the gutter wondering how someone could have missed your red tail lights and the stop light indicating that traffic was not moving a paramedic looks into your eyes with a flashlight and checks your pulse. After checking you out and finishing with the police officer you are left dazed by the events of the afternoon and realize that are now stranded downtown without a ride and you have missed the last few hours of work.
Frantically you dial your cell phone and call a friend to get some help. You then call the office to tell them why you were not back from lunch yet and you call home to make sure everyone there is okay. If you did not do it when you were talking to the police officer you call your insurance company to let them you were involved in an accident.
The next morning you wake up in pain as the subtle injury to your neck has tightened through the night and you can no longer turn your head without suffering a huge amount of pain. You glance out of the window and remember that your car is at a repair shop on the other side of town. You decide to get a ride to the doctor and have an x ray of your neck. After calling in sick to work you realize that your medical exam will not be covered by your auto insurance carrier and you will probably be off work for the next week or two. As you sit patiently in the waiting room of the doctors office it occurs to you that you will probably need the services of an accident attorney to help you get your life back in order.
