The Olympic Games are not only a series of major international sports events. They are also phenomenal international events that take place with so much preparation by the host country and the participating nations, media coverage, political and economic significance for the host country, and worldwide anticipation. They occur every two years, with alternating Summer and Winter Olympics, and with different host countries for both of the Olympics. The Summer Olympics is usually the more prominent between the two because there are more participating nations than the Winter Olympics and so much politics is involved in arriving with what country would host it. The Olympics have evolved so much in the twentieth century due to the fast changing political, social, economic, and technological environment of this era. Three of these significant evolutionary circumstances are the formation of the Paralympic Games for athletes with physical disabilities, creation of the Youth Olympic Games for teenagers, and the advent of highly-technical apparels such as Nike Jordan shoes for basketball players.
In Ancient Olympics, shoes such as Air Jordan had no place. Most of the athletes of that time wore sandals when they engaged in athletics, combats, and racing events where they used chariots. People then believed that they were continuing a tradition of the gods where popular myth claims that Hercules started this tradition when he built a stadium in honor of Zeus, his father. The major games at that time were running, jumping, discus and javelin throws, foot race, wrestling, boxing, and equestrian. The competitions were among representatives who came from Ancient Greece city-states that vied for national and individual honor. Modern times Olympics though have expanded their lists of sports and games. Furthermore, they made way for sophisticated trainings, clothes, and shoes such as the Nike Jordan, which are very helpful in protecting the feet of the athletes.
If Ancient Olympics were religious in purpose, modern Olympics on the other hand are of political, social, economic, and even commercial importance. The International Olympic Committee is composed of members coming from various nations, and it serves as the umbrella organization under which many national and international organizations and sports on sports are members. Other members of the Committee are people from media, judges, officials, and players. Membership in it constitutes the power to influence decisions such as where to hold the games. Host nations of the Olympics become more known worldwide, as the events starting from the selection process up to the awarding of the honors are covered by local, national, and international tri-media such as television, radio, and print and tourists flock to the host nations during the games thus a significant increase in tourist flow during and after the games. An increase in commercial exchanges and exposure take place too such as investment by multi-national brands such as Air Jordan in the host nations.
Nike Jordan shoes such as the Air Jordan, which are considered by basketball athletes as the most technical shoes ever produced for them, are one of the most advertised and patronized during the Olympics because their manufacturers, distributors, and sellers invest in the sponsorship of certain teams with international stature. The fans and supporters of these teams are most likely to wear their idols’ chosen or endorsed shoes during the events. To basketball aficionados, Air Jordan is the ultimate pair of shoes for the Olympics because they are most favored by their favorite players. Nike Jordan has not only become popular but a legend in the history of the Olympics. In the 2010 Olympics, these magnificent shoes will reign. They are incomparable and engraved in the hearts and minds of Olympics supporters.
