Shopping With Children Is Tiring And Expensive

Children are inquisitive, curious, rowdy, fun and exhausting. They never tire, they never run out of things to say or do or mess, but as adults we often do! I loved to take my children on outings when they were younger, we would go to the library, the park, find a stream and let them play for hours, we would go on hikes, walks, feed the ducks, visit a farm or children's museum, go for ice cream or swim at the local city pool. I loved these outings, they killed the long summer days and gave us all something to look forward to.

My exceptions to these loves and pleasure are only three as I mentioned. The problem with sugar cookies is that it takes forever to get them ready to be rolled out, as soon as the dough is ready and chilled and rolled the first kid always sticks a cookie cutter right smack dab in the middle of the dough, making it impossible to cut out about half the cookies.

Fingers everywhere, running through the middle of the dough, dough stuck to cutters, and then if you finally get them all baked the same situation starts over with the frosting process, fingers in everything, frosting everywhere. For some reason regular cookies don't seem as cumbersome.

Swimming was my second least favorite thing to do with my children as they loved to splash in my face and scream constantly, "watch me, watch me." I guess if I were a better mom this wouldn't bother me, but I always had daydreams of sitting by the pool with my feet in the water reading a book. I should have left the book at home and just swam with the kids. I think it was the constant screaming that would get to me.

Finally my least favorite activity to do with children is grocery shop. I would get home and wonder where the Captain Crunch, Orange soda and Oreo's came from. Somehow they always managed to sneak in items when I wasn't looking. I got to the point where I would put the kids to bed at night and go grocery shopping about 9:30 P.M. This became my respite from the storm, I started looking forward to these trips. Everything else I loved about children just take out the swimming, cookies and shopping.
