Flow meter technology is being utilised across the globe in a whole range of industry settings. This kind of technology is essential to monitor the through flow of liquids and gases and to provide data on these materials. One industry where flow meters play a key role is the Petrochemical industry. For this article we take a closer look clamp on flowmeter devices and how these are being put to use in the Petrochemical industry

Petrochemicals are produced and processed in refineries with extensive pipe networks carrying streams of fluids between chemical processing units. These fluids can be products such as petrol, diesel, oils, liquid petroleum gases and many more. There will also be other products flowing through the network of pipes that are used in , or are by-products of processing, such as acids and industrial waste waters. Petrochemical products of course need to be manufactured to the highest quality and grade. The best way to ensure this is to constantly monitor throughflow of fluids through individual pipes. This is where flow meter technology is applied.

Flowmeters come in all shapes, sizes and applications. Which flow meter is used will naturally depend on the type of liquid or gas, pipe thickness, pipe material etc.. Keep in mind that most of the fluids being transported around pipes at a Petrochemical factory will be highly flammable, and mostly corrosive. Installing a flowmeter within the confines of a pipe transporting a corrosive material is probably not advisable unless the flow meter is fabricated to resist the corrosive nature of the material. Of course having a flow meter entombed within a pipe of corrosive fluid is also extremely difficult to get at and repair. That is why the Petrochemical industry chooses to utilise clamp on flowmeters on their refinery pipe networks.

Clamp on flow meters can literally be clamped on to the outside surface of a pipe or tube. This type of flowmeter device uses ultrasound to obtain readings and data on fluids flowing through a pipe. Clamp on flow meters can also be fitted onto pipes and tubes that are made of various metals and plastics. Another benefit of this type of flow meter device is that is avoids breaches to pipe structures and possibly dangerous leakages.

To find out more information on how clamp on flowmeter systems are being thoughout the Petrochemical industry it may bw worthwhile visiting the Katronic website? Katronic are internationally renowned specialists in all types of ultrasonic clamp on flow meters. They supply flowmeter devices and systems to industries across the world. Visit their website at Katrionic.co.uk to find out more about flow meter technology.
