Some units also need a place to vent heated air, such as a window or door. This means that the area outside the location of the unit will become heated even as the unit's immediate vicinity is cooled. These conditions detract from the desirability of portable air conditioning units. However, despite the issues, these units present an attractive alternative for one seeking the particular conditioning of a specific locale within a building and those wishing to avoid the cost of installing new units at every move.
